Setting up trusses or rafters is necessary for most framing endeavors. However, the current process of installing hurricane ties into each rafter and top plate is time-consuming and tiresome. You have to get up on a ladder, hold the hurricane tie in place, and nail a handful of nails in one by one. There has to be a better way!
Good news for you; There is! The FastenMaster FrameFast system. With this system, you can significantly reduce the time it takes you to connect your rafters to top plates without compromising the integrity of your handiwork.
How It Works
The FastenMaster FrameFast system contains the FrameFast tool with a high-torque Milwaukee drill and a patented delivery system head. The design of this tool allows it to fit perfectly in any framing scenario. Use of the tool can be broken into 3 quick and easy steps:
- Drop the FrameFast screw into the delivery system head
- Position the head flush against the top plate and about an inch or two under the rafter or truss
- Finish by stabbing the head into the rafter and pulling the trigger to drill the screw into place
The tool is designed to screw the FrameFast threaded screw through the top plate and into the rafter at a 15-30 degree angle. You can choose to drill the screw in flush against the top plate, or proud if that’s what you’d prefer.

How it Saves Time
This process will save you so much time and effort. The FrameFast system has been proven to be up to 8 times faster than traditional hurricane tie methods. It is just a single screw, as opposed to 8 or so nails being nailed into a hurricane tie. In a test, the FrameFast system was able to connect a top plate to a rafter in 5 seconds, while it took almost a minute to nail in the hurricane tie. This doesn’t even take into account the time it took to set up a ladder, gather the nails and tools, and put the tie into place. The FastenMaster FrameFast system will save you time so you can get on with the job.
Additional Benefits
The FastenMaster FrameFast system reduces the need for any ladders and scaffolding. The tool is long enough that you will be able to reach the rafters in most circumstances. Accidents could occur using the old process-hammering a hand or falling off of a ladder, meaning the FrameFast system will also significantly improve safety. Also, pneumatic nail guns or hoses are not needed since the use of nails is wholly eliminated. Tested engineering documents support the FrameFast system, and it is code compliant.
