Atlantis Spectrum

The Spectrum Cable Railing System is a customer favorite featuring 1 ½ x 1 ½ inch posts made of heavy-gauge stainless steel and powder-coated for maximum durability.

ORION Cable Railing

The ORION System features a powder-coated aluminum framework and horizontal stainless steel cable infill. The framework consists of 3” x 3” posts, an optional bottom rail, and a flat, continuous top rail.

HandiSwage™ Cable Railing

The HandiSwage™ System is designed to provide a clean, concealed cable fastening solution through the use of innovative swage components. This system helps create a sleek, streamlined railing appearance while maintaining the strength and reliability needed for long-lasting performance.

Atlantis Spectrum Top Rail System

The Spectrum Top Rail System includes fascia- or surface-mounted Spectrum posts and a 1⅝" x 3½" aluminum top rail, available in 4', 6', and 8' lengths with adaptive fittings. For use with Spectrum posts only.

Modern Railing Solutions

Horizontal Cable Railing Option

Horizontal cable railing (which runs horizontally to the deck base or floor) is the most prevalent form of view-enhancing railing. A great view is enhanced by removing balusters and other obstructions from your railing, while still providing safety and aesthetics. A top rail is always necessary when building a cable railing system, as are structural posts, so you want to optimize the small amount of hardware used by making it stainless steel. The top rail should always be installed in a way that allows the top rail to absorb and deflect the pressure applied when the cable is tensioned. It is best practice to secure the top rail by bracing it between the posts rather than simply placing it on top.

Comparison of Metal vs. Wood

Both wood and metal rail posts can be used for cable railing applications, provided they are properly built to handle the required tension. The best choice often comes down to the overall style and aesthetic you want to achieve. Wood offers a warmer, more natural look that complements traditional and rustic designs, while metal delivers a cleaner, more contemporary feel with a more industrial edge. We encourage creative cable railing designs that highlight the look and performance of stainless steel railing components while enhancing the overall character of the space.

Code Compliant Cable Railing

At one time, building code restrictions limited the use of any horizontal railing for general use, including cable railing. In 2001, the International Code Commission (ICC) removed this “ladder law” restriction from the International Residential Code (IRC). Though nothing is stated in the IRC or International Building Code (IBC), any state or municipality has the right to write and interpret the existing IRC and IBC in their code. When using cable railing, you should always consult the local code enforcement official before submitting your plans. Gain approval before the installation, not after.

Cable Railing Maintenance Tips

Stainless steel cable railing systems should always be made of marine-grade 316L stainless steel to withstand harsh environments, maximize durability, and require minimal maintenance. Stainless steel can discolor under normal environmental exposure, including salt water. A simple car wash soap can clean the metal if it needs a bit of sprucing up. If the metal surface scratches or discolors, a passivating fluid may neutralize any contamination of the stainless surface.
