Benjamin Moore Color Trends – 2017 Color of the Year

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, Shadow 2117-30, is allusive and enigmatic — a master of ambiance.

Last year’s Color of the Year selection turned out to be quite controversial. Simply White was, simply, the right color. If you were in the “white was the wrong choice” camp then we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the 2017 Color of the Year. Shadow is a deep, saturated purple that Benjamin Moore says reflects consumers’ newfound level of confidence in using deeper, saturated colors.

Purples, especially the deep and rich purples, have become commonplace as a backdrop and even as the occasional trim color. It doesn’t darken a room like other deeper colors might, and create a warm and cozy environment for you to enjoy. It might be that your office becomes an intriguing place for you to get some work done or a bedroom that is inviting as you head to bed at night and welcoming as you wake up in the morning.

Shadow has been referred to as “Allusive and enigmatic… A master of ambiance. It is a color that calls to mind a ‘past,’ yet it can also make a contemporary, color-confident statement,” by Benjamin Moore’s creative director, Ellen O’Neill.

All day long, Shadow will play with the light that hits it, perfectly framing a pensive yet playful atmosphere. At dawn as light first breaks, shadows cast a welcoming screen across the world. As the sign reaches its zenith, the afternoon light and receding shadows create a breathtaking interplay of light and dark across walls and floors alike. As dusk approaches, colors and silhouettes become one as day dissolves to night.
